Under Southern Skies II, latest needle-felted fibre painting
Continuing my exploration into a more abstracted style, Under Southern Skies II takes me into another slightly unfamiliar direction – this time through colour.
I don't naturally gravitate towards an autumnal palette in my artwork, so this piece became an experiment in working with warmer, earthier tones.
As with Under Southern Skies I, I've deliberately loosened the detail and allowed the shapes, colours and fibres to do more of the work. The landscape is still recognisable, but increasingly abstracted – somewhere between what I see and what I feel when I look across the rural landscape.
