Echoes of a style (my first sold paintings)

While sorting through old photos, I came across these two paintings from 2002 – back when I was dabbling in painting on silk fabric with special inks.
One is a study of pansies. The other is a portrait of our ginger tabby, Rusty.
What hit me was realising that these were the first two paintings I ever sold. They’d completely slipped from my memory, but seeing them again felt quietly significant. Not just because they marked a first, but because I can already see the beginnings of the graphic, two-dimensional way of working that still underpins my fibre art practice today, 24 years on.
It’s oddly reassuring to notice that the thread was always there, even before I knew how to name it (and I still sign my paintings the same way – funny!).
