Bushman’s Friend – Pīwakawaka II takes flight

Here is my latest fibre painting! The New Zealand Fantail (a.k.a. Pīwakawaka, or “the bushman’s friend”) is renowned for its friendly behaviour and tendency to follow people as they walk in the bush – collecting the insects that our feet disturb. It is one of my favourite birds and a joy to capture in fibre.
