‘Ewe Alone’ for the IFA felt swap

‘Ewe Alone’ needle-felted fibre artwork by Sarah Ritchie, created for the IFA felt swap 2026.

It’s felt swap time again! Once a year, the International Feltmakers Association (IFA) runs an international felt swap. Members create a needle-felted or wet-felted piece based on a shared theme, then swap their work with an assigned maker somewhere else in the world.

The best part? You have no idea what’s being made for you. It could be a fibre artwork (like what I create), a wearable piece such as a bracelet or earrings, a toy, a small vessel, or something completely unexpected. That’s the magic of a felt swap – the joy of creating something special for someone else, and the excitement of receiving a surprise in the mail.

Last year’s theme was “inspired by an artist”, which felt very much in my wheelhouse. This year’s theme is “geometry”, which also aligns beautifully with my style.

Here is my contribution for 2026, which I’ve titled ‘Ewe Alone’ 🐑

Needle-felted in my new favourite ‘mini’ format of 10cm × 10cm, made from 100% local New Zealand Corriedale wool fibre, with imported white cotton fibre.

Now I just have to wait to be assigned my swap partner…how exciting!
